Frequently asked questions

How do I open the template in Google Sheets?
  1. Download the .xlsx file from your Gumroad receipt or download page (a computer is easiest).
  2. Go to drive.google.com and sign in with a free Google account.
  3. Click New > File upload and choose the .xlsx file.
  4. Double-click the file in Drive, then click File > Save as Google Sheets.
  5. Start on the Start Here tab. Type only in the cream-coloured cells.
  6. Want a fresh start? Upload the BLANK file the same way.

Excel: double-click the .xlsx (Excel 2010 or newer, Windows or Mac). There are no macros or add-ins. Not tested in Apple Numbers.

Does it work in Excel?

Yes. Double-click the .xlsx in Excel 2010 or newer on Windows or Mac. There are no macros, add-ins or newer-only functions (no XLOOKUP, FILTER or LET).

What about Apple Numbers, LibreOffice or a phone?

The files are tested in LibreOffice and Google Sheets. They have not been tested in Apple Numbers. On a phone, the Google Sheets app works for updating numbers, but do the first setup on a computer; it's much easier.

How is the file delivered?

Checkout and delivery are handled by Gumroad. Right after payment you'll see a download page, and Gumroad emails you a receipt with the same link. The download is instant; nothing physical ships.

I lost my file or the download link.

Search your inbox for the Gumroad receipt; the link in it keeps working. Still stuck? Email hello@your-domain.example with the email you bought with and we'll resend it.

What's your refund policy?

If a template doesn't work for you, email us within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you in full through Gumroad. No forms, no hoops. Full refund policy.

Is checkout secure?

Yes. Checkout runs on Gumroad over HTTPS. Gumroad processes the payment; we never see or store your card number. Gumroad shows the payment options available in your country and calculates any sales tax or VAT at checkout.

Is it a subscription?

No. One payment, and the files are yours to keep.

Can I see the numbers I type into it?

Only you can. The spreadsheet lives in your own Google Drive or on your own computer. We never see your data, and the files contain no scripts that send anything anywhere.

Why can't I type in some cells?

In Excel, formula cells are locked so they don't get overwritten by accident. There's no password: use Review > Unprotect Sheet to customise anything. Google Sheets doesn't import the lock, so there you can edit every cell (be careful with the white ones).

Why are the charts empty?

Charts stay blank until you enter data (in Google Sheets they may show an "Add a series" placeholder). They fill in automatically once you do.

Can I use a currency other than US dollars?

Yes. Select the money cells and change the number format to your currency. All the formulas still work.

Can I share it with my partner?

Yes, within your household: a shared Google Sheet is exactly how the couples template is meant to be used. Please don't resell or post the file publicly. See the terms.

Is this financial advice?

No. These are personal budgeting tools and general education. For tax, legal or investment decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
